VNA Care Painting on Public Display for First Time

“Always at Your Service,” a painting celebrating VNA Care’s nurses, is now on view at the Cape Ann Museum, Gloucester, with a special reception and gallery talk slated for March 4.

This is the first time the painting has been on display outside of VNA Care’s offices for more than 50 years. Artist Emile A. Gruppe (1896-1978) painted the portrait of a VNA Care nurse by the Gloucester waterfront around 1960 and donated it to the agency.

The painting went on public display in January as part of an exhibit of artists loosely classified as the “Cape Ann School.” Gruppe was considered the most well known and prolific of these artists.

The community is invited to learn more about the artist as well as VNA Care’s history and work in the community today during a reception and gallery talk on Wednesday, March 4, at 11 a.m. Museum admission will be free for this special program. Refreshments will be served. The Cape Ann Museum is located at 27 Pleasant St., Gloucester. Metered parking is available in the public lot across from the museum.

Reservations are requested by Monday, Feb. 24. Please contact Deborah Corkum at 774-502-8290.
