VNA Care to Present 13th Annual Heroes in Health Care Awards at Signature Event

VNA Care will honor three Heroes in Health Care during the nonprofit’s 13th annual Gala on Saturday, Nov. 10, at the Mandarin Oriental, 776 Boylston St., Boston.

The Gala is VNA Care’s signature fundraising event and has raised millions in essential funding for VNA of Boston’s charitable care programs, as well as for palliative care provided by VNA Hospice & Palliative Care. The Honorary Gala Chairs, and Presenting Sponsor of the event, are Amy and Joshua Boger. John R. Greed, president and CEO of Mutual of America, is Fund the Mission chair.

This year’s Heroes are Agios (to be accepted by Dr. David Schenkein, CEO, pictured/left); Thomas A. Croswell, president and CEO of Tufts Health Plan, pictured/center; and Dr. Joan Y. Reede, dean for diversity and community partnership of Harvard Medical School, pictured/right.

Agios is a leader in the field of cellular metabolism to treat cancer and rare genetic diseases. In addition to an active research and discovery pipeline across both therapeutic areas, Agios has two approved oncology precision medicines and multiple first-in-class investigational therapist in clinical and/or preclinical development.

As CEO of Tufts Health Plan, Thomas A. Croswell defines the strategic plan of one of the region’s largest health plans that provides health insurance coverage across the life span regardless of age or circumstance, ensuring Tufts Health Plan maintains its strong culture of quality, innovation and customer service.

Dr. Joan Y. Reede is the first dean for diversity and community partnership of Harvard Medical School, and is responsible for a comprehensive program that provides leadership, guidance and support to promote the increased recruitment, retention and advancement of underrepresented minority faculty. Her work includes oversight of all diversity activities at the school as they relate to faculty, trainees, students and staff.
